Episode 25: This one is a little bit different (and shorter) than previous podcasts in that it is a single song instead of a half hour long jam. It's a Sunday night, and I'm working on beats for Velva songs, and this little electro Dreamdaze number popped out. Who am I to argue? It's a podcast!
Objects From The World Of Machines - 10 January 2009
Episode 24: This is an early morning (4 AM) practice session for Velva's next show. I spent the hour (a half hour of which makes it into this podcast) mixing various loops and bits I had around, looking for something to use in the Velva jams between our traditional songs. This is pre-coffee and pre-breakfast! Just woke up, grabbed the laptop and started in. I hope you enjoy it. The mix has a nice dreamy feel to it.

Episode 23: I completed this practice peformance a few weeks ago while trying out new software on a new computer on a new OS. I was very happy with the results. This was all done in one improvised take and has a very loose, very Orb-like feel to it. It's a nice little ambient or ambient-techno piece. This is very similar to what you'll hear between more traditional songs at a Velva show.

Episode 21: And now for something completely different. This episode of Objects From The World Of Machines is a live DJ mix of 11 original songs that I've completed over the past 2 weeks. The songs have more of a "dance" element to them, although if you listen closely, you'll hear some glitch elements even still. This one is similar to material from Infected Mushroom, in my opinion.

Episode 20: Thanks for "tuning in" again. Can you "tune in" a podcast? I guess I should say thanks for "clicking in" instead. Anyhow, Episode 20 was inspired by a Mystechs remix I did last month. After struggling with it, I went off the deep end at a very aggro 200 bpm and turned out a heavy gabba mix. Apparently that broke something loose and Episode 20 of Objects From The World Of Machines is the result. Here I've returned to what I will call an illbient sound, although you will hear elements of electronic artists from Cornwall in it too. It's experimental. It's interesting to listen to. I've had it going in the background at work the last couple of days and it's worked well for me.

Episode 18: Features a more experimental bent than my most recent podcasts. No seperate songs stiched together here. This podcast is like a DJ mix...but with lots of abstract rhythms and soundscapes, odd fx/samples and basslines and haunting melodies. This one performed live in my "blue room" office studio.

Episode 17: I'm not sure how to describe this one. I guess IDM comes the closest. I've pulled in 8-bit drums and bass, so it has a chip-tune sonic pallet, but I've glitched up the drums (when don't I) and added a few other glitch and "found sound" elements to it. There are mangled guitar riffs interspersed through out.
So when it comes down to it, you choose the genre:
(a) IDM
(b) Glitch
(c) 8-bit or chip-tune

Episode 16: Features deconstructed 80s riffs, glitched up drums, electro beats for seasoning, funk guitars, phat bass lines and even a little prog rock thrown in. Just add reverb and shake.

Episode 15: Features a mix of 6 glitched up drum'n'bass tunes, produced in a marathon session last night. The pace is frantic and reflects, which reflects my recent weeks.

Episode 14: Features a mix of 6 electronica songs which have been under construction by DJ Dazed of DREAMDAZE for the last couple of days. Each makes use of a more rock-oriented bassline, glitched up rock drums and various poptronica synth lines. Each song is sprinkled with vinyl scratches and a variety of vocal samples.

Episode 13: Features an ambient techno mix by DJ Dazed of DREAMDAZE. This track was recorded live at my dining room table and features glitched up breakbeats mixed with IDM-ish bass, pads and fx. It's very non-abrasive, very interesting and highly listenable. Hint: it's like a Shakespearean play, climaxing in the middle.

The keyboard and tempo ideas come from SinCroNation, the beats are based on Wicker Basket, and the glitched-up madness demonstrate Protman's influence.
